Peter J. Smith

After practicing law in Philadelphia for several years, Mr. Smith joined Semanoff Ormsby Greenberg & Torchia, LLC in 1998. His current practice concentrates in the areas of corporate law, business transactions, mergers and acquisitions, commercial finance, debtor/creditor relations, business disputes, non-profit organizations, real estate, and trusts and estates. He counsels clients, large and small, including businesses involved in manufacturing, distribution, marketing, health care, pharmaceutical research, professional services, real estate management and development, construction, retail, e-commerce and technology. In addition, Mr. Smith has experience with start-up ventures, family-owned businesses, limited liability companies and 501(c)(3) public charities.  He also represents individuals and families in estate and business succession planning.

For each of the last four years, Mr. Smith was selected for inclusion in Super Lawyers® aspublished in Pennsylvania Super Lawyers Magazine and Philadelphia Magazine. The attorneys listed in Super Lawyers® are limited to the top 5% of Pennsylvania attorneys practicing in their field.  In 2012, Mr. Smith was named a Philadelphia Top Rated Lawyer® as published in the the Wall Street Journal and the Legal Intelligencer.

Mr. Smith also just celebrated his 11th year of being rated AV® Preeminent™ by Martindale Hubbell®. This is the highest possible peer review rating issued by Martindale Hubbell® for both legal ability and ethical standards.

In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Smith has taught as an adjunct professor in the Legal and Real Estate Studies Department at Temple University. He has interned for two federal judges; the Honorable Herbert Hutton in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and the Honorable Joseph Rodriguez in the United States District Court in Camden.

Mr. Smith graduated cum laude from Temple University School of Law in 1991, and  magnam cum laude from Temple University with a degree in psychology. He is a member of the Eastern Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce. He also serves as the President and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Business Network Group, an organization promoting business-to-business referrals in Bucks and Montgomery Counties.  Mr. Smith regularly writes and speaks on business related topics and is active in his community and church.
